A place where ideas meet with unruly outcomes.
This truly is the thinking of owner, designer Wendy Furman. Creator of the irrepressible Whim & Caprice. A transplanted artist, graphic designer and creative director from Los Angeles, now living in Sonoma County, Furman has turned her design skills towards creating an irreverent yet sophisticated line of pillows, table top linens, notecards and anything else that catches her fancy at the moment.
Created in 2011 in picturesque St. Helena, heart of the wine country in the Napa Valley, Furman views her life slightly askew like the leaning studio she worked in, where the view from her window overlooking the vineyard and mountain range were whimsically slanted at an odd angle! It was the perfect setting for a whimsical idea to hatch. Whim & Caprice was born at the local St. Helena Farmers Market, where her pop-up stand looked more like a Parisian gift shop than a temporary market stall and it's here that Furman was able to craft for herself what she had done for companies the likes of Warner Bros., Disney, Geffen Records, and others. Whim & Caprice has been published in the LA Times, Remodelista, Country Living Magazine, Dwell, Martha Stewarts’ American Made, and the countless wonderful bloggers and websites.
The idea is to keep it local, hand made, well crafted, and be committed to supporting her community. The emphasis is on wry wit and choosing images with a discerning eye, iconography comprised of beautiful old etching and engravings, common images, presented and recontextualized in a fresh modernism that's instantly recognizable as a “Whim & Caprice”.
As Furman so aptly states, “We all need a bit of Whim & Caprice in our lives!”
